The highest-frequency digital touchpoint of a national energy retailer: inherited slow and unstable, rebuilt, and pushed past the competition.
ENGIE Italia · Technical Product Manager, then Digital Technologies Lead (direct ownership) · 2021 – 07/2025
Residential customers judge an energy supplier by the app long before they judge the tariff. The app I took over was slow, crashed constantly, and the store reviews said so. Fixing it meant rebuilding the platform underneath rather than patching features on top.
Technical Product Manager with direct project management responsibility from my arrival until July 2025: roadmap, backlog, release planning and acceptance across a team of around 20 FTEs, working in Scrum sprints for nearly two years.
Full rebuild on an AWS microservices architecture with a new design system and feature parity. Consumption monitoring as the flagship addition, delivered jointly with the metering management team. iOS and Android release cycles, integration with billing, metering, Salesforce and payment back ends, authentication and in-app service journeys.
B2C marketing and customer operations, metering management, IT & Digital delivery teams, external development and QA partners, security, privacy and legal functions.
iOS, Android, AWS microservices, containers and serverless functions, REST integration layer, Salesforce, enterprise identity platform, Dynatrace for application performance monitoring, Jira, Confluence, Scrum ceremonies.
~200k monthly active users, a 99% crash-free session rate and 4.6/5 on Google Play across 9.7k+ reviews. Consumption monitoring closed a two-year feature gap against competitors in nine months, coordinating the app and metering teams around a single delivery plan. Measurable effect on service: fewer inbound calls, fewer tickets and a higher store rating. The contested technical call was mine, keeping part of the platform serverless instead of containerising everything.
